LANGDON HILLS GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB

1/Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)
i. Beyond all boundary hedges and fences or on or beyond any line of white stakes or lines defining
the boundary of the course
ii. 9th Hole/ Clubhouse area On or over the road to the left of the hole (defined by the course side
edge of the kerb) and then beyond the course side edge of the paved pathway and the course
side edge of the path behind the 1st/ 7th tees and then the line of white stakes to the metal fencing
iii. 10th tee/18th green area. Beyond the fencing at the back of the 18th green and on the paved areas
behind the 10th tee.
iv. The reservoir and driving range area in the centre of the course, as defined by the white stakes on
the left of the 15th and 16th holes.
v. 6th and 10th Holes Internal Out of Bounds. On or beyond the line of white stakes on the right
hand side of the above holes. When playing any other hole these stakes are deemed to be
Immoveable Obstructions.

2/Penalty Areas (Rule 17)
Penalty Areas are indicated by red stakes (Red Penalty Areas). The edge of the Penalty Area is defined
by the break of the ground into the pond or ditch
When both stakes and lines are used the stakes identify the Penalty Area and the line defines the
edge.

In addition to the Relief options under Rule 17.1 the player has the following options on the holes
shown:

13th Hole… As an extra relief option for the pond situated to the back of this Green, adding one
penalty stroke, a player may:

Drop a ball within the dropping zone situated at the back right of the green.

The dropping zone is marked by a sign and the relief area is within one club length of the sign. The
dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3

14th Hole…As an extra relief option if a ball comes to rest in the penalty area at the front of the green,
adding one penalty stroke, a player may drop a ball in the designated matted dropping zone. The
player’s ball must come to rest within the matted area which is deemed a relief area under Rule 14.3

Note: 1st and 15th holes. When sleepers are supporting the edges of a penalty area, they are deemed
to be within the penalty area and the edge is defined by the course side edge of such sleepers.
Therefore, if a ball is resting against them, it is in the penalty area and there is no free relief.

3/Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16.1).
This includes Immovable Obstructions and Ground under Repair (GUR). Free Relief
may be taken from:

a/ All artificially surfaced pathways
b/ Unhealed Drainage Channels
Any gully or remnants of drainage works, which has been sand filled, contains gravel/ stones or has
not fully grassed over to the same height as the surrounding turf, which may cause the ball to lie
below the natural level of the immediate ground.
c/Areas of Ground under repair
These will be marked by white lines and or hoops and or ropes
d/ All areas of piled green keeping waste/cuttings/ soil
All such areas on the course are deemed to be GUR
NO PLAY ZONES … Free relief MUST be taken under Rule 16.1f
e/ Protection of Young Trees
The young trees identified by stakes and /or wrapping are “No Play Zones”; -: if a player’s ball lies anywhere on the course other than in a Penalty Area and it lies in or touches
such a tree or the tree interferes with the player’s stance or area of intended swing the player MUST
take relief under Rule 16.1f
f/ Environmentally Sensitive Areas
These areas are marked by orange stakes and relief must be taken
4/ Immoveable Obstructions Close to the Putting Green (e.g. Sprinkler Heads)
In addition to the types of interference described in Rule 16.1a, when a ball lies in the General Area,
interference also exists if an Immoveable Obstruction is on the player’s line of play, within two club
lengths of the putting green and is within two club lengths of the ball, the player may take relief under
Rule 16.1b (Exception; There is no relief under this local rule if the player chooses a line of play that is
clearly unreasonable.
5/ Prohibiting Play from the Fringe of a Wrong Green
When taking wrong green relief, the wrong green is defined to include the surrounding fringe of the
putting surface. This means when taking relief under Rule 13.1f the nearest point of complete relief
must avoid interference from this area in addition to the wrong green.
Unless otherwise determined by a Rule of Golf- Breach of Local Rule:
General Penalty…Stroke play…2 Strokes
Matchplay…Loss of Hole
Temporary local rules
Tyre ruts due to construction work
During the construction work being carried out on or close to the course, there is
likely to be damage caused by way of deep tyre ruts. These areas of damage,
although not individually marked, are deemed to be Ground Under Repair (GUR)
from which free relief maybe taken under Rule 16.1
Note – A deep tyre rut is deemed to be any such rut which, due to its depth, means that
when a ball lies within or beside it, the player’s club face is not able to strike all parts of
the golf ball when making a stroke
“Greenkeeper’s Cuttings and soil piled to the left of the 13th hole. Ground
under Repair
The Green keeper’s cuttings and soil piled to the left-hand side of the 13th hole
are deemed to be Ground under Repair. A player may take relief under Rule 16.1a
if they have interference from these areas.”
Adverse weather conditions
Preferred Lies
Commonly known as ‘Pick, Wipe and Place’
This status will be displayed on the electronic notice board located in the
clubhouse reception.
When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less
the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball and
playing it from the relief area.
Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.
Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference
point but with these limits:
Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference
point and must be in the general area.
Tee area Mats
Where present teeing area mats comprise the teeing area. When starting a hole,
from a teeing area mat, the player must stand on and play a ball from the mat.
Penalty for breach of local rules (general penalty)
Stroke Play – 2 strokes
Match Play – Loss of hole
Course Safety
Lightning Risk
Players are responsible for their own safety when there is a risk of lighting
(Rule 5.7a)
Course Evacuation
Audible (Klaxon) warning:
Three short blasts: Fog or Lightning
When the klaxon is sounded in fog or when lightning risk exists during a
competition, play is suspended and players MUST leave the course.
